Exfoliating facial scrubs can be an effective skin cleansing treatment but only when used the right way. While they are great for clearing off dead skin cells and cleaning skin pores, overuse can actually cause as more problems than exfoliating can solve. Most facial scrubs are made from the seed in the core of a peach, so imagine what abrasive treatment you are applying on your face. We’re going to show you how to properly apply facial scrubs the right way so maximize their effect while minimizing and undesired consequences and keeping your skin healthy.
To properly apply the facial scrub, squeeze a little bit onto your hands and rub them together. Add a tiny bit of water onto your hands so it smooths over your skin a little bit easier. Place the exfoliating facial scrub on your face, then work in circular motions around your entire face. Be careful around the lips and eyes which are sensitive areas. When you get to your nose, it’s acceptable to just use a couple fingers. You don’t have to use your whole hand. Make sure you get the tip of the nose as well.
If you have any scrub brushes like Dermalogica exfoliating face brush, which you can get at your local grocery or drug store, you can use it enhance the exfoliating element of the scrub. It’s just a soft bristly brush for your face. Dip the brush in a bit of water then scrub the skin in a circular motion. The brush helps to penetrate the scrub deeper into the skin and to loosen up any dead skin cells. It’s more abrasive than your fingertips so be gentle.
Wipe the scrub off with cotton squares or as you would your regular skin cleanser. You can do this one to two times a week but not more often than that. The reason why you don’t want to exfoliate too much is because your skin will have to spend more time trying to heal itself back to balance itself back out again. This facial scrub treatment is a good procedure to do if you have oily skin, but remember not to exfoliate too much or over cleanse the skin to the point where you strip all of the oil. Your skin will actually produce excess oil trying to replenish all the oil that was stripped. Also note that if you have sensitive skin, it is not recommended that you use a facial scrub as most facial scrubs will irritate your skin.
A good gentle facial scrub you can try is the Origins Modern Friction face scrub which uses rich starch to exfoliate and is gentler on the skin. Be sure to use this treatment with a face scrub brush for maximum effect and keep it down to once or twice weekly only to avoid irritating your skin.
